Beach Yoga Hawaii - About Kripalu Yoga
Yoga originated in India more than three thousand years ago. Yoga is a scientific methodology combining physical and mental practices to enhance mental, emotional and physical well being.
Yoga derives from the Sanskrit root "Yuj" meaning to yoke or join- union. The essence of yoga is realizing the path by which we unite our Finite Self with our Infinite Being.
The yoga process of unifying thought, breath, and movement develops focus, concentration, physical strength and agility, and an awareness of the fundamental connection between intention, action, and consequence.

The style of Kripalu Yoga is part of the Pashupata Lineage. This tradition extends back through to about 200 B.C.E. The Pashupata Sutam is the only ancient text specific to the Pashupata path. This text was written by Lakulisha. Amrit Desai brought Kripalu Yoga to America from India after he graduated art school in Philadelphia. Amrit’s teacher was Swami Kripalu. Amrit developed Kripalu Yoga as a bridge to Swami Kripalu’s practice to the Westerners. \ \ \ \ / / / /
Character traits are the etchings carved into the mind by one’s thoughts and actions. The mind is a veritable museum of character traits, from this life as well as countless previous lifetimes. It can be said that one’s personality is the sum total of his character traits, and that one’s actions tend in a direction prompted by his mental store of character traits. That is why (yoga) places such an importance on character building principles. We can try to straighten out the tail of a dog, but the moment we let it go, it snaps back into it original shape.

We shall not cease from exploration. And the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time.
